I just got my Legere 2.75 alto sax reed in today, my first synthetic reed. It really surprised me. It is very free blowing, but mabye because its a little soft to my liking. The sound got a little spread after a few minutes, but it was a focused sound. Again the spreading is probably because a thin reed.This is my first post on saxontheweb! I hope it is in the right place. I have been playing alto for about 15 years and recently decided to pick up a tenor. I bought this 1966 Conn 16M from the original owner. The story goes that he played it for one year in high school and gave up, and recently rediscovered it in the basement after 43 years.

A few observations. First of all there are different styles of music and concepts of a saxophone sound. The "best" embouchure for a jazz or rock musician may not be the same as the "best" embouchure for a musician who plays classical saxophone. The "bottom lip rolled out" expression is used a lot in discussions about saxophone embouchures.

Definitely need to fix the thumb. Should rest at about 2 o’clock overlapping the key. When you press the key, the joint should bend or slightly roll while staying put on the rest, no shift at all.
